Tour de Nidderdale, Yorkshire…& France!

Tour de Yorkshire 2017 – it’s back!

Enjoy both the Women’s and the Men’s races in Nidderdale – on Saturday 29 April 2017! Details of the route can be found on or give us a ring for more information (01423 714953)! A great opportunity to enjoy time in Pateley Bridge and watch the 2 races fly down our award-winning High Street – or crowd around the Cote de Lofthouse at the top of the dale for a spectacular hill climb. You may even decide to watch the race at different points throughout the day – at Burnt Yates or Summerbridge or Shaw Mills or Birstwith – all beautiful Nidderdale villages with a roadside view of both races on the one day. We hope all our visitors have a fantastic day – and stay with us over the bank holiday weekend or come back another time to enjoy our lovely dale. Pop into our Tourist Information office at Station Square, Pateley Bridge HG3 5AT (we’re open extended hours on the 29th April) for lots of ideas for walking, local accommodation and great places to eat!

Tour de Yorkshire: Friday 29 April 2016 – in Nidderdale!

It was a fantastic sight to see the peleton riding down Pateley Bridge High Street, mid-afternoon, then up Greenhow Hill for this King of the Mountains section. Despite the chilly weather, our visitors had a warm welcome in Nidderdale, enjoying some fantastic scenery, good local food and great atmosphere!

The popularity of cycling continues in the dale and we’re delighted to be promoting our very own Tour de Nidderdale! This ‘figure of eight’ route centred on Pateley Bridge will be equally enjoyable when undertaken by bicycle, motorcycle or by car. The route can be tackled in a single ride or split into two loops. It has been designed with the experienced cyclist in mind – but remember to take care and take it easy – there are some narrow, twisty and steep roads, flanked by dry-stone walls!

The Tour guide can be downloaded here – Tour de Nidderdale route – and includes places of interest along the route, as well as an invitation to ‘spot’ the green and gold plaques that are proudly displayed in many of our village celebrating the Tour de France in our area in 2014. Printed copies of the Tour are also available at the Nidderdale Plus office, Masham Community Office and tourist information centres.

The Tour de Nidderdale was devised and prepared by a partnership arrangement between Sport Nidderdale and Nidderdale Plus, and supported by Knabs Ridge Wind Farm Community Fund and Harrogate Borough Council Community Chest.

Tour de France 2014:

The world famous bike race has been and gone, it thundered through Nidderdale to the most amazing  support. Thousands lined the roads to get the best view.  ‘Cote de Blubberhouses’ was a marvel to see, a sea of spectators watched as the peloton climbed Kex Gill and beyond.

The race may be over but do not despair, celebrations are still continuing in Nidderdale during 2014. Join in our ‘Tour de Pateley ‘ and ‘Tour de Nidderdale’ trails to avoid the ‘TDF’ blues! All around Nidderdale imaginatively designed yellow bikes are waiting to be found.

Dales Yellow Bikes

Be it a giant ‘rock-crushing’ monster, or a more reasonably proportioned comedic take, loosely yet creatively moulded around a bike theme, you will see local businesses and local residents have joined in the fun!

Here’s a taster what’s to be found:
